These instructions are provided to help Calaveras Internet users connect to AOL using their local Calaveras Internet
number. If you need additional help, please Call America Online at their free 800 numbers.
1) For an automated answer or a live person call 1-800-827-3338.
2) You can also connect to the Technical Support BBS, via your modem. Just
configure your communications software for 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and
no parity, and call 1-800-827-5808.
AOL is now just a local phone call away.
There are no additional toll (phone) charges, outside of the monthly
connect and time fees AOL charges, if you connect thru Calaveras Internet. Check
it out, as the first month is free, if you don't go over the ten free hours.
If you do not like the service, for any reason, you can go to Member Services
and cancel the account at any time. Just read the disclamers and so on
that come with the sign on kits.
America Online's software (ver. 1.5 and above for Windows; ver. 2.5 and above for Mac) lets
you use TCP/IP or PPP (your dial-up Internet connection) instead of your modem
to connect to America Online at no extra charge. Connecting to America Online
with TCP/IP or PPP is often faster than the usual modem-based connection process,
and it will not interfere with your use of other Internet software like Netscape or Eudora email.
Minimum system requirements for using TCP/IP (Windows)
* Windows v. 3.1
* America Online for Windows v. 1.5
* TCP/IP Winsock v. 1.5 (Calaveras Internet users are typically running Trumpet Winsock v.2.0)
To connect to America Online via TCP/IP (v. 1.5 and 2.0 for Windows):
- 1. Establish your PPP connection by dialing into Calaveras Internet as usual. Load your AOL software.
- 2. Click on Setup on the Sign On screen.
- 3. Click on Setup Modem.
- 4. Select the TCP/IP (Winsock) release that corresponds to the release of
America Online for Windows you are running (for example, Winsock v. 2.0
if you are running America Online for Windows v. 2.0).
- 5. Click on OK to save this information.
- 6. Click on OK to return to the Sign On screen.
- 7. Sign on to America Online using TCP/IP.
To connect to America Online via TCP/IP (v. 2.5 for Windows):
- 1. Establish your PPP connection by dialing into Calaveras Internet as usual. Load your AOL software.
- 2. Click on Setup on the Sign On screen.
- 3. Click on Edit Location.
- 4. Select TCP/IP from the Network drop-down box.
- 5. Click on Save.
- 6. Click on OK to return to the Sign On screen.
- 7. Sign on to America Online using TCP/IP.
Mimimum system requirements for using TCP/IP (Macintosh):
* System 7, or System 6.0.5 with Communications Toolbox installed
* America Online for Macintosh v. 2.5
* MacTCP v. 2.0.6
To determine which release of America Online you are running, select About
America Online from the Apple menu. If you do not have the latest release,
go to Keyword Upgrade and order it online.
To connect to America Online via TCP/IP (Macintosh):
- 1. Establish your PPP connection by dialing into Calaveras Internet as usual, and load your AOL software.
- 2. Select TCP Connection from the Locality pop-up menu on the Sign On screen.
- 3. Sign on to America Online using TCP/IP.
